Appointed initially from a successful JAE-Doc grant. The project involved the use of ionic liquids and heterogeneous catalysis for the efficient transformation of biomass into value-added chemicals, and the generation of solar fuels by photocatalysis, focusing for both areas on the implementation of the studied technologies in processes of commercial interest.
Later, I became the Principal Investigator of the project entitled Producción fotocatalítica de hidrógeno mediante energía solar a partir de biomasa o de aguas residuales, successfully awarded a three-year national grant for young researchers (CTQ2015-74138-JIN, total amount: 194810 €, co-funded by the Spanish Research Agency and the EU), devoted to designing highly efficient nanostructured photocatalysts for the transformation of low-cost feedstocks derived from waste and/or renewable substrates to solar fuels, chiefly hydrogen or light carbon-based products. This is in line with a strategy based on earning energy from both the Sun and residues from human activities. Furthermore, I have recently become the Principal Investigator and coordinator of an international project (ADSIDEO-AD1705) in collaboration with Université Hassan I (UHI, Morocco) aiming at developing a cost-effective technology for hydrogen production by solar treatment of wastewaters, to be transferred to industrial sectors in both countries.
I supervised an early-stage researcher (M. Imizcoz, MSc degree), whose MSc thesis on the photoreforming of bio-oil components for sustainable H2 production was awarded the Third Cemex-Sostenibilidad Prize from Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV).
On an educational ambit, I held collaborations with (UPV, general Chemistry teaching and laboratory demonstration courses for undergraduate students).
