Short Presentation
Education: Degree in Nutrition from the University of Buenos Aires (1996), resident in Nutrition at the Ramos Mejía Hospital (1996-1999), specialisation in Obesity and Eating Disorders from the Argentine Medical Association (1999-2001). PhD from the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) (2007).
Professional career: For 7 years she taught at the University of Buenos Aires and worked in the field of clinical nutrition in various hospitals in Buenos Aires. In 2003 she joined the URV where she completed his PhD. In 2007 she joined the Human Nutrition Unit of the URV where she is currently an associate professor and researcher at CIBEROBN, (ISCIII). She has 25 years of teaching experience and 18 as a researcher at the URV.
Publications and transfer of research results: She is the author of a total of 153 scientific articles published in journals indexed in the SCI, 35 of which she was responsible author (first, last or corresponding author and most of them correspond to the first quartile). The citations received total 6828, generating an H-Factor of 38.
Projects: She has participated in the execution of 20 competitive research projects. She is the Principal Investigator and co-coordinator of the multicenter CORAL study (Childhood Obesity Risk Assessment Longitudinal Study, https://corals.es/ and the LEDFERTYL study (Lifestyle and Environmental Determinants of seminogram and other male FERTILity). Currently, she also participates as a collaborating researcher in the European STOP project (Horitzó 2020 Topic: SFS-39-2017 Imperial College London): 2018-2022 and in the Lifestyle Interventions, Metabolites, Microbiome, and Diabetes Risk study in collaboration with Harvard University (NHI 2021-2026). She participated in the implementation of PREDIMED coordinating the fieldwork and in the design of the PREDIMED-PLUS nutritional intervention: Effect of a hypocaloric Mediterranean diet and promotion of physical activity in primary cardiovascular prevention. She has been PI of the PREDIMED-PLUS Pilot Study on intermediate markers and quality of life funded by RECERCAIXA in the period 2014-2016 and of the pilot study MELIPOP (https://melipop.es/ Mediterranean Lifestyle in Pediatric Obesity Prevention). During the implementation of the projects, she was also instrumental in the training of dieticians and the development of the work manual. This demonstrates her extensive experience in large cohort studies. Her line of research focuses on the relationship between diet and lifestyle and various cardiovascular risk factors in children, older adults and people with coeliac disease. Recently, she has started a research line assessing the relationship between diet and lifestyle on sperm quality.
Teaching merits: She is currently Vice-Dean in charge of the Degree in Human Nutrition and Dietetics. In addition, she currently teaches on Bachelors Degrees in Medicine and Human Nutrition and Dietetics. She has supervised 20 master's theses, 9 final degree projects and 5 doctoral theses. She is currently co-directing 6 more doctoral theses. She has received the 2020 teaching quality award from the Social Council of the URV and the Jaume Vicens Vives distinction for teaching quality 2020, the highest distinction for teaching quality awarded by the Generalitat de Catalunya. She is currently accredited by the AQU with 3 five-year teaching periods, 2 six-year research periods and accreditation to become a full professor (AQU).
