Breu Presentació
Laureano Jiménez Esteller has experience in higher education and research of 29 years (PhD, assistant professor, associate professor and full professor).
His research focus is mathematical programming and optimization (linear, nonlinear, continuous/integer variables) applied to engineering processes. The cases cover different spatial scales (nano to macro) and temporal (microseconds to years) supply chains (uncertain variables), plants (algorithms), unit operations (decomposition techniques), metabolic networks (global optimization) or macroeconomic models (input-output). To solve such problems, we should combine mathematical programming (GAMS, Matlab ...), hybrid simulation models (Aspen Plus, Hysys ...) and environmental criteria (life cycle analysis) in multi-objective optimization (Ecoinvent ...). This aspect, along with the papers published in many related areas show the versatility, the multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary of the research.
He has 4 "sexenios" and 5 "quinquenios". He has published 115 ISI-paper. His h index is 31 (Scopus. 37 in Google scholar). The number of citations is 3060 (Scopus. 4294 in Google scholar) and the average impact factor is 3.418. 19% of publications are in the top5% of their cathegory, 38% in the top decile and 91% in the first quartile. He has published 54 book chapters on Computer Aided Process Engineering (Elsevier).
He has participated in national projects: coordinator (CTQ2016-77968-P, CTQ2012-37039 and CTQ2009-14420) and research (DPI2006-05673, 15707-DPI2006, CMT-2004-05800, DPI2003-09392 and PB94-0943). He has been part of the research teams in EU research projects: FP7 (SMARTMEM, CAP-IT), FP6 (IceMaker, Ecophos and IMPULSE) and FP5 (h-TechSight and LCA-IWM). He also was the coordinator of EU Life Long Learning programme projects (RRIL, TEEDE, LETAE and NESOR), principal researcher (EC2E2N v2, THE-MP, DISCO II, Aero.vet, EC2E2N, Aero.Net and EuPaCe.net).
He has delivered advance training to the chemical industry (REPSOL. Sekisui, CPQ ingenieros, Joint Research Center-EU) and has developed simulation models for many companies (Fundación REPSOL, ExxonMobil, Repsol Química, Repsol Petróleo, Maystar, Mediterranea d'Enginyeria, ITPSA).
He was the principal investigator of popular science projects (FCT-09-471, CCT003-05-00262, 07-00175, CCT005, ACDC-2008-00097), relating to the series of short 'Wolfram, a folk with chemistry' (www.etseq.urv.es/wolframio) that obtained many nominations (and several awards) at national and international film festivals scientist. The project has received over 72000 visits in youtube.
On the teaching side in 2001 the teaching staff of the Chemical Engineering School was awarded with the prize for Educational innovation by the Social Council (URV) in 2002 we obtain the Jaume Vicens Vives prize (awarded by the Government of Catalonia) and in 2003 award by the Inter-Universitary Council of Coordination (Spanish Ministry of Education). In 2006 and 2020, we obtain the award for innovative teaching by the Social Council (URV) and the Jaume Vicens Vives award.
